Quote for the week:
Fundamentally, the baseline for human governance — now and in the future — must be whether any society takes seriously what happens when someone is harmed so that someone else can have ‘sex’. –John Stoltenberg
Late C20 women imho got sold a bill of goods — told that “liberation” meant learning to behave like men, or accept men’s terms of reference. Told that “liberation” meant accepting casual sex as normative, that not providing sex to any given man on demand makes you “unliberated,” that Freedom for Women really means being 100 percent compliant with male demands and appetites. Pretty convenient definition, you ask me: from Victorian chastity cult fast-forward to universal prostitution, Virgin to Whore, with no room in between to be a real person rather than some kind of cartoon drawn by patriarchy. T.H. White years ago summed it up as the essence of totalitarianism: Everything not forbidden is compulsory. That’s how “liberation” has been defined (by men) for women: sex, which used to be forbidden, is now compulsory. We used to be told “he won’t like or respect you if you’re too easy,” and now we’re told “he won’t like or respect you if you don’t put out on demand.” Progress? hardly. Sheesh, there are things about today’s porn culture that actually make the Victorian era look good… kinda like McCain looked good next to Trump which also made my brain hurt.
Let’s take it right back to kindergarten. Throwing a hissy fit because the other kid won’t give you her lunchbox cookie is bad behaviour. Feeling compelled to give the other kid your lunchbox cookie because otherwise he’ll throw a tantrum and make your life miserable is just not right. We need sex ed in schools, and not just “how to avoid getting pregnant.” We need to teach kids that sexual selfishness and rudeness are not any nicer or more justifiable than other kinds of selfishness and rudeness… and that no one has any kind of right or entitlement to the use of another person’s body. Believing you have a right and an entitlement to the use of another person’s body is the mindset of a slave owner. Nuff said.
