Stan I’m very pleased to see you here! I think you’ll find some intelligent and insightful readers for your always intelligent and insightful essays.
I’m also very pleased with this essay in particular. This distinction between terrain and opposing force is crucial and the perfect antidote to kneejerk Taint narratives. BTW I think we should re-explore the Taint narrative itself as a personality type indicator: that personality type (one prone to Taint narratives and ferocious taxonomies) exists in all political environments. I know you know this :-) but it may be worth exploring: the uber-lefty convinced that the slightest contact with the Democratic Party destroys all credibility, is closely related to the uber-racist who believes that one drop of “impure” blood makes you non-White, or the early warrior male who believed that touching a woman during her menses would sap all his manly strength and virtue, or the uber-righty who believes that reading just one “wrong” book can make you the brainwashed tool of World Communism. Their Taint narratives exist in vastly different contexts, and yet it’s the same brain configuration… or so I am willing to postulate.
