White women are the primary consumers of True Crime stories? That's interesting and surprising. I wonder why. Because Anglo-descended women are "just safe enough" from routine, daily criminal violence that they can read about it with fascination rather than fear and horror? My Mum, who lived through the Blitz in England, could not bear war movies (or sirens, and she wasn't fond of fireworks). What you've lived through often determines what you can and can't find entertaining.
OTOH women, whatever shade their skin may be, are always at risk of true crime -- always on guard against predatory male behaviours that may escalate into rape or even murder. So... why read about it? I find this really puzzling. I can understand the fun in murder mysteries (the less realistic, the better) but what's the appeal in stories about real-world awfulness?
